From 1 January 2027 every Queensland home must have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms, and on every level. Homes being sold or leased already need them. If you own and live in your home, this is your deadline.

Do I need a switchboard upgrade?
If you still have ceramic fuses, no safety switches, breakers that trip often or a board that is full, it's usually time. We'll look at it and tell you honestly whether it needs replacing or just an addition.
Can my house take an EV charger?
Most can. We check your switchboard capacity and supply first. Some homes need a switchboard upgrade or 3-phase power for a fast charger, and we'll tell you before you commit.
How long does a 3-phase upgrade take?
The work itself is usually a day, but Energex approval and the supply connection set the timeframe. We handle the application and keep you updated.
What do the 2027 smoke alarm rules require?
Photoelectric alarms complying with AS 3786-2014, interconnected so they all sound together, in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms and on every storey. They must be hardwired or powered by a 10-year sealed battery.
